“I wish to be in a TV show”
Taylor, age 9
Wish Adopted by: Macy’s
Taylor, who’s 9, carries herself with poise and self-assurance. “I love performing and want to be an actress when I grow up.” Taylor appeared in her first commercial at age 3, and two years later appeared in a film. She was making her own dreams come true!
When she was 8, Taylor began having terrible stomach aches. It took four months of tests to reach the diagnosis of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoblastic lymphoma. By that time, Taylor had already lost a lot of weight and then began undergoing chemotherapy nearly every day, fighting for her life.
Once Taylor was referred to Make-A-Wish and met with volunteers from the San Diego chapter office, her desire to be onscreen became immediately clear. “I wish to be in a movie or TV show,” Taylor told her two wish-granters.
Soon, the perfect role for Taylor came about. Macy’s was developing an animated TV special, and they invited Taylor to be part of it. The story is the timeless holiday classic, “Yes, Virginia” and Taylor played Virginia’s best friend.
To record her lines, Taylor and her mother were whisked to New York City to the studio, where Taylor also approved of the final sketch of her character. “I think she’s just perfect,” Taylor exclaimed! She then got down to work, recording and re-recording her lines for the show.
As a guest of Macy’s, Taylor then went on a special behind-the-scenes tour of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade workshop. She saw how all the imaginative floats were designed and got a sneak peak of the huge, floating balloon characters for the upcoming parade.
At the end of her whirlwind wish day, Taylor smiled broadly and said from her heart: “Thank you so much Make-A-Wish and Macy’s for all you do to change so many children’s lives.”
Back in San Diego, Macy’s and the Hotel Del Coronado hosted a special VIP West Coast premiere” of “Yes, Virginia” in December. Taylor walked the red carpet with special guest Santa Claus himself before entering the Grand Ballroom to watch the show.
Many thanks to Macy’s, the Hotel Del Coronado, CBS, Cox Communications, and JWT for helping make Taylor’s wish come true!
