“I wish to see the ancient Mayan ruins”
Nalu, age 7
Wish Adopted by: El Camino Creek Elementary School
7-year-old Nalu loves geography, history and paleontology. When presented with the idea of having a wish, he decided that he wanted to touch the ancient past and visit the Mayan ruins and rainforests of Belize and Guatemala. His amazing 9-day trip starting in Belize, where he and his mother Delaney stayed in a cottage in the jungle. They went on a horseback ride into the jungle to see ruins. They also drove to Guatemala and hiked five miles to Tikal where they saw ancient ruins and pyramids. Another adventure included a boat trip to a private island, where Nalu went exploring and snorkeling.
Nalu had so many extraordinary experiences, including swimming in the Caribbean Sea and seeing monkeys, toucans, iguanas and tarantulas. “This trip was life-changing for Nalu,” says his mother Delaney, “He met children who were living in poverty, yet they were so happy, and he learned an important lesson that material possessions don’t make you happy.” Nalu wants to be an archeologist when he grows up and is an avid reader. He loves playing with legos, video games and soccer. His favorite movie is definitely Indiana Jones and his favorite food is Cheetos.
