“I wish to have a clubhouse”
Mason, age 7
Wish adopted by: WCM, Inc.
Mason knew it was a special day when the limousine drove up to his house. The destination? Legoland…his favorite park! Mason had no idea that while he was away, volunteers would assemble something even more special in his backyard.
The special something was a clubhouse. “I wish for a clubhouse where I can play with my friends,” Mason had told Make-A-Wish volunteers who met with him last summer. The 7-year-old had just begun treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Make-A-Wish volunteers had worked with Mason and his family to incorporate as much of his “wish list” into the structure as possible: a green slide, a loft with a window in the roof, a balcony, and table and chairs to play games. Designers even included a secret opening hidden in a “fireplace” in the loft.
When Mason returned from Legoland later that day, volunteers greeted him in the driveway. Of course he couldn’t miss seeing the nifty two-story clubhouse now standing in his driveway!
With a big smile Mason ran right over to it and checked out every inch.
“He plays in it every day,” Mason’s mom told us.
“He was so excited about it from the very beginning, when he first met with you. It gave him something to look forward to. And the surprise party with his favorite cake just made that a very special day for all of us. We are so grateful to have people like you in our lives. Thank you so much.”
