“I wish to feed children in Africa”
Erik, age 16
Wish Adopted by: Make-A-Wish 3c Committee
16-year-old Erik is an intelligent and thoughtful boy from El Centro whose spinal cord injury has resulted in life-threatening medical complications. When given the opportunity to go anywhere, have anything or meet anyone, Erik instead chose to give…. With a passion for helping others, Erik asked Make-A-Wish to help him find a way to feed hungry children in Africa.
Make-A-Wish contacted Project Concern International, a San Diego-based health and humanitarian aid organization dedicated to preventing disease, improving community health, and promoting sustainable development.
The result of this creative collaboration is a project called “Erik’s Harvest,” which will provide urban gardens and fish farms to communities in Zambia, Ethiopia, and Malawi.
“3c is so excited to adopt Erik’s wish and to support the work of Make-A-Wish,” says James Radina, a volunteer and 3c Committee member. “Every wish is special, but this one is truly inspiring…to see a child who has gone through so much, and yet has a heart for helping others.” The 3c Committee raised support for Erik’s wish through a series of events and through member donations.
Erik was honored at the Project Concern awards dinner in November, where he presented his gift to the president of the organization.
