“I wish to have a white piano”
Emely, age 4
Wish Adopted by: Outreach Through Dance
Wish Kid Emely, who is diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, has budding musical talents. She loves playing the guitar and piano – and she’s only four years old! As a child from a musically-oriented family, her parents have encouraged her to try these instruments. Emely has even begun playing her mom’s violin. Adult-sized instruments are hard to handle, though.
So when Emely’s wish granters asked for her most heartfelt wish, Emely wished to have her very own piano. And not just any piano, but a white, shiny musical instrument that was just her size. “I love playing the piano because it’s fun,” Emely says.
With the help of The Piano Warehouse in San Marcos, the perfect instrument was soon located: a polished white Weber baby grand piano by Young Chang. For her big day, a long black limo picked up Emely and her mom, taking them to a special event and carnival honoring cancer patients. To create the element of surprise, the piano was delivered and set up while they were gone.
When Emely returned home later that afternoon and opened the front door….she couldn’t believe her eyes. There stood her beautiful piano! She ran to sit down at the bench and immediately started playing. Her parents and wish granting volunteers gathered around as she performed some “Strawberry Shortcake” tunes and songs from the movie “Shrek,” included in the new sheet music she also received. As Emely’s mom told us, by enabling her daughter to sit at her own piano each day, this wish has helped her through her treatment, bringing Emely happiness and joy through the performance of music.
This wish was made possible thanks to the generosity of The Piano Warehouse, and also thanks to the group Outreach Through Dance, who adopted Emely’s wish.
